today is day one: i bought some flowers for my parent's 24th anniversary. knowing that they've gone through so many changes together, how they've grown together, and how they've stuck through it all these past 24 years amazes me. this is the kind of love i want. the one where they fight & make up. the one where no matter what happens, they know they've made a sacred promise to each other & they uphold that bond, no matter what. my parents are not religious people -my mom is, not my father -but they know the importance of love. they know that it's about compromise. my mom once told me that she had to learn to pick her battles. that some things, she would let go, because it just wasn't that important to bicker about. i've probably seen them fight a handful of times. & each time, by the next day or two, they had made up & compromised with each other. i also admire their dedication to each other. if my dad got a raise at work, he would ask for my mom to get one too. if my mom went out to eat, she'd bring half home for my dad. my parents love each other, with everything. & that love is only reflected in our family. yes, there are times where we all hated each other. but no matter what, we got over it. we're a family. this bond between us cannot be broken. we can hate each other one minute & laugh with one another the next. in all honesty, i think our family is so strong, because we know the importance of love & god. we hold true to our catholic faith.
